Before Alecia left for college this fall she wanted to paint her room - as you can see from this photo, it was definitely needed. She got the brilliant idea when she was 12 to paint her room with all different color sponges and then when she got more ga-ga into boys, she covered one entire wall with these posters.
I have refrained from ridiculing her too much, because I used to have my walls covered with Kirk Cameron, Ricky Shroeder and Ralph Macchio - and now I've just given away how old I am too. Sigh :-)
Now that she's almost 20, she decided to finally get a more mature look and negotiated my help. (Actually, I offered.)
Her kind sister folds her body in half to accomplish the edging - the most uncomfortable part of painting. Argh! I don't have any pictures of Alecia painting??? Hmmm, I wonder why that is. Oh yeah, I did most of the work (Hee Hee :-)
the finished product - furniture moved around in a new location
it looks sooo much better! - and only one boy's pictures adorn the walls!
This was taken at Joy's graduation from Fuller Seminary in June. I was just reflecting this week about how blessed I am to have these two as my sisters. (And Joy, I owe you some painting time - feel free to call on me when necessary!) Anyway, they are two outstanding women. We are each 7 1/2 years apart so a lot of people wonder or ask me, "Are you guys close?" To which I answer, "YES!" I think it's probably a testament to our parents who always emphasized the importance of family and sticking together. But, I also think there's something special about sisters. We go through a lot of the same experiences, albeit at different points, and we're there for understanding and camaraderie and chatting (Good Lord, what would Brent's life be like if I didn't have my sisters? He might hear my chatty stories 5 times instead of the usual 2!) Anyway, I digress, they are each wonderful women. Hardworking, kind, intelligent, supportive, funny, friendly, dependable - just wonderful.
I'm so glad my two girls will enjoy the same type of relationship. It's fun to watch it develop already. At home, they play together pretty well (with the occasional tif about every other hour or so) They are always quick to hug or sympathize with the other, and I know they'll stick up for each other in tough times to come.
So, thank you God for Joy & Alecia!
I sure do love you both!
