Kindergarten Manicure

Another nail salon picture - yes, it's true.
I had promised Gracie that before kindergarten started, we could
get her nails done so they would be "sparkly" in time for school to start.
This promise proved to be the light at the end of the tunnel on a somewhat
rough Kindergarten hello party day.

We got to kindergarten Monday morning for her hello party - meet the teacher to discover that Gracie's actual teacher is on maternity leave until November. We met the very nice, very competent substitute, but I could tell that Gracie was disappointed, having built up in her head who her teacher was only to discover she'd have to wait to meet her. Then, we realized that the hello party was just with the teacher and the students - no parents. Whoops! I misread the paperwork on that one. So, I pried an upset, crying Gracie off my arm and left to go fill out the paperwork, all the while thinking, "Well, this didn't go well, at all!" I returned about 20 minutes later. All was well, she had recovered, but still didn't look too happy. Walking to the car, I asked her, "how could we have handled that better?" She answered, "I got surprised, and I don't really like those kinds of surprises." Hmmm, honest answer - neither do I, truthfully.
As you might imagine, blue sparkly nail polish with flowers on her toes and fingers cheered her right up, and she told me that she would be fine when she actually went to school.

The finished product :0)
Grandma Dianne and I got a pedicure, Aunt Alecia got a french manicure
and Gracie got fingers and toes polished with flowers. What a treat!

Love the nails! I love the question you ask her--how could we have handled that better? And I love her answer--she's so honest. Such a great Mom you are. :)
