Danger - Deer Crossing

On the Cornelius family annual snow trip, this sign greeted all drivers headed to Flagstaff. It proved to be a bit of foreshadowing as a large deer leaped right out in front of Papa Dennis' car and met a sad end. Fortunately, no one was hurt and Papa Dennis, while shaken up, couldn't have done anything to avoid it and managed to steer safely to the side of the road where the police and tow truck people could be of assistance. It was a bit of a scary start to an otherwise fun-filled weekend. After ensuring everyone's safety, the family quickly started buying him momentos of the accident, namely a little stuffed deer to commemmorate the occasion. :-)

Deer Damage After explaining the incident to the girls, (we weren't part of that first caravan, so didn't see it happen) Hope began to report to anyone in earshot that, "My papa ran over a deer." Truthfully, the deer ran into Papa's car, and there was nothing he could've done to avoid it. Everyone was safe and that's the most important thing. Thankfully, all that has to be done to recover from this accident is an insurance claim and time with an oh-so-cool Chevy Malibu rental car.

The truth is that Dennis never would have seen the deer coming. It ran straight out of the median into the side of his car. He did a fantastic job of keeping his car under control with the window blowing out, the airbags deploying and a deer smashing into his windshield. He so easily could have lost control of his car and rolled or gone down the embankement on the side of the road. People die in this kind of an accident and watching it occur, I can see why. It all happened so fast. I am so thankful to God that they were all ok, and I think Dennis is a STUD!!!

Oh, wow! That can be dangerous. Glad to hear that everyone is okay, even if the car isn't.....
