I am thankful for President Bush

It's no surprise to my small blog following that I tend to lean to the conservative side when it comes to major political and social issues. Ironically, I may be less conservative theologically, but more so politically - that's an interesting paradox - perhaps I'll explore that in a future entry. I would like to state, however, that I'm not a rank and file Republican. I do consider issues deeply. I try to make a wise, informed decision regardless of what political party espouses it.

Tonight I watched the President's farewell address and I am impressed. President Bush is a good man. I realize that puts me in the minority with the media elite, nevertheless, I respect him tremendously.

I am very thankful he has kept us safe since Sept. 11th. I for one can at least imagine how difficult that must have been. I see the sincerity and emotion on his face when he says that it has been his greatest honor to serve as the Commander in Chief and his finest moments were spent meeting with our country's brave soldiers.

I love that he's a father of daughters and devoted to his wife. That shows strength of character and integrity, and a soft spot that makes him endeeringly human. I like that he's honest, sometimes brash and passionate, and doesn't always complete a correct sentence. How many of us always make sense?

This President, while he admits making mistakes (who hasn't?) has had the character that is worthy of respect. He is gracious under extraordinary, often unwarranted criticism and doesn't lash out. I admire that - it's difficult to do. He's someone who understands sacrifice and decency.

So, President Bush, thank you for loving God and loving our country and its citizens. Thanks for shielding us and taking the criticism and doing your very best. I deeply respect you and wish you and your family all the best.

I appreciate your comments Michelle. I feel so bad for President Bush because I feel like the media never even gave him a chance, and it's hard to know what is fact from fiction. But, I have a hard time believing that he is the evil idiot that the media makes him out to be. Anyway, hopefully down the road we will be able to see that his presidency wasn't as bad as it's been made out to be. Okay, I'm done rambling..... Good post!
